OralAdvance™ - Quantitative Cytology test for Assessment of Oral Lesions

Dental Professionals:

If a suspicious oral lesion which requires further investigation is found, general practitioners typically have several options including:

(a) wait and schedule appointment with patient in a few weeks
(b) refer a patient to a specialist (often requires long waiting time)
(c) perform a biopsy
(d) There is another choice, OralAdvance.

OralAdvance

OralAdvance is a quantitative cytology test which helps differentiate benign oral lesions from potential malignant ones. This innovative test is based on measurement of large-scale DNA abnormalities from cytology preparations using Health Canada approved image cytometry technology.

OralAdvance sample collection is an easy chair side procedure, virtually painless for the patient, and utilizes a cyto-brush kit to quickly collect oral mucosa cells from a suspicious lesion for analysis.

How OralAdvance works:

1. Sample Collection: Use the soft cyto-brush kit to quickly collect oral mucosa from suspicious area. OralAdvance sample collection requires no anesthesia and it only takes around 10-20 seconds. For details, please visit Instructions.

2. Laboratory Analysis: Using the pre-paid mailing package provided in the kit, you can send the sample to PMI Labs. An automated DNA image cytometer makes measurements of thousands of cell nuclei and sort them according to their DNA content. DNA content provides the cytotechnologist and cytopathologist with an objective measure of large scale DNA abnormality; indicating lesions with malignant potential.

3. Results & Next Step: Results will be faxed and mailed or sent electronically through Medi-Net in 2-3 working days after the laboratory receives the sample. If DNA abnormality is detected, malignant potential of the lesion is very likely and a thorough further investigation of the lesion is required.
